Celebrating their final home match with fireworks, Durban’s Super Giants secured their ticket to Qualifier 1 in the SA20 Playoffs at Newlands on February 6th. They remain atop the leaderboard with 32 points after a thrilling eight-run victory over the Pretoria Capitals.

Breetzke Blazes Again:

Matthew Breetzke, the batting rock of DSG, was once again the star of the show. His sizzling 73 off 46 balls earned him his second consecutive Player of the Match award, a testament to his consistent brilliance.

Dala Delivers:

Junior Dala proved a force to be reckoned with in the field, grabbing a stunning catch and then tearing through the Capitals’ batting with 5/26, restricting them to 166/9 in response to DSG’s 174/9.

Early Onslaught:

Breetzke and Quinton de Kock set the Kingsmead ablaze with a powerful start, reaching 71/1 within the Power Play. Breetzke, known for his trademark cover drive, was particularly aggressive, forming a 51-run partnership with De Kock.

Muthusamy’s Web:

Senuran Muthusamy, with his deep understanding of the local conditions, turned the tide for the Capitals. He cleverly spun a web, trapping Breetzke (73), Keemo Paul (0), and the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen (30). Daryn Dupavillion joined the party with 3/25, leaving DSG reeling after losing 8 wickets for 98 runs.

Capitals Stumble:

The Capitals’ chase floundered from the start with Phil Salt dismissed off the second ball. Will Jacks’ lone knock of 41 offered some hope, but Rilee Rossouw‘s sluggish 10 off 27 reflected their overall struggle.

Super Giants Stay Strong:

“We controlled it well in the middle, and Junior Dala’s pace gave us a cushion at the back end,” said a pleased Super Giants captain, Keshav Maharaj. “It’s a great sign that everyone is stepping up when needed.”

Cape Town Hopes Linger:

Capitals captain, Wayne Parnell, remains optimistic despite his team’s position. “We needed one big partnership in our chase,” he admitted. With two crucial matches against MI Cape Town remaining, they haven’t given up on the Playoffs just yet.

Kingsmead Celebration:

Kingsmead also witnessed its first Betway Catch 2 million winner, with Durbanite Tyler Smith joining the lucky club of six fans who snagged a share of the prize.

The Durban’s Super Giants head into the Playoffs fueled by momentum and home-ground glory, while the Pretoria Capitals face a nervous wait, hoping to snatch a last-minute opportunity from MI Cape Town.
