Ellyse Perry, the Australian cricketing powerhouse, is set to lead Birmingham Phoenix in the upcoming Women’s Hundred competition. This news comes after Perry missed the entire 2023 season due to a knee injury.
Phoenix fans were initially excited about Perry’s leadership in 2023. The all-rounder had a phenomenal international career, boasting over 6,000 runs and 300 wickets across formats. Her sole Hundred season in 2022, though brief, displayed her batting prowess with 134 runs scored in just 6 matches. However, the injury forced her to the sidelines, leaving a void in the Phoenix leadership.
This year, Perry is back and ready to take charge. Her appointment as captain injects a surge of experience and strategic brilliance into the Birmingham Phoenix squad. Her return not only bolsters the batting lineup but also provides a strong on-field presence to guide the team.
Speaking about her return, Perry expressed her delight: “I’m incredibly honoured to be named Birmingham Phoenix captain. It’s a wonderful club that means a lot to me. Missing out last season was truly disappointing, so I’m incredibly excited to be back this year.”
