Dwayne Bravo, the legendary T20 cricketer and highest wicket-taker in the format, has announced his retirement from the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after the conclusion of the current season. The 40-year-old Trinidadian, who has left an indelible mark on the sport, shared this momentous decision just hours before his team, Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR), took on St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in their CPL 2024 opener in Basseterre.
Bravo expressed his excitement and gratitude, emphasizing that his final professional tournament being played in front of Caribbean fans makes the occasion even more special. For Bravo, TKR holds a particular significance, as it was the team where his CPL journey began, and now, where it will come to an end.
Throughout his illustrious CPL career, Bravo has been a force to reckon with, amassing 128 wickets in 103 games, making him the league’s highest wicket-taker. With an impressive bowling average of 22.40 and an economy rate of 8.69, he has consistently been a match-winner. His contributions extend beyond just statistics, as Bravo has also led his teams to five CPL titles, including three with TKR and one with the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in 2021.
Bravo’s announcement comes nearly three years after he retired from international T20 cricket, following West Indies’ exit from the 2021 T20 World Cup.
