Unicorns Stamp Their Authority in MLC Season 3 Opener with Finn Allen’s Record 15
The Major League Cricket 2025 season blasted off in spectacular fashion as the San Francisco Unicorns dismantled defending champions Washington Freedom by a staggering 123 runs at the iconic Oakland Coliseum—a debut T20 match for the historic venue.
Finn Allen, the explosive New Zealand batter, etched his name in history with a breathtaking innings of 151 off just 50 deliveries, marking the fastest century in MLC history and the most sixes (19) ever hit in a T20 innings globally, surpassing Chris Gayle’s previous best.
Allen’s Carnage Sets New Records
The Unicorns’ innings was nothing short of a power-hitting masterclass. Despite losing Tim Seifert and Jake Fraser-McGurk early, Allen went on the offensive immediately. He reached his half-century in just 20 balls, igniting a storm that Washington’s bowlers could not weather.
Allen was brilliantly supported by Sanjay Krishnamurthi (36) in a partnership that yielded 88 runs in a little over six overs. Krishnamurthi took the attack to Rachin Ravindra, who was hit for four sixes in a row, underscoring the Unicorns’ aggressive intent.
269 and Chaos for Washington
With Allen leading the charge, and a late flurry from Hassan Khan (38 off 18), the Unicorns posted 269/5, the highest team total in MLC history. Their total included 28 sixes, making it the second-most sixes in a T20 innings worldwide.
Washington Freedom’s chase started brightly, thanks to Rachin Ravindra (42) and Mitchell Owen (39), who put on 80 in under six overs. But the chase collapsed rapidly once Haris Rauf (3/30) and Hassan Khan (3/38) found their rhythm. The defending champions were bowled out for 146, registering the biggest defeat in MLC history by runs.
Unicorns Send a Message
This dominant display sends a clear message to the rest of the league—the Unicorns mean business this season. Finn Allen was rightfully awarded Player of the Match, with his innings being hailed as one of the finest ever seen in franchise cricket.
The San Francisco Unicorns will next face Los Angeles Knight Riders, while the wounded Washington Freedom will aim to bounce back against Seattle Orcas in an exciting double-header on Saturday.
