The sixth match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) concluded with Gujarat Giants Women finding the first win of their WPL journey after they defended the target of 202 runs against the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women.
Gujarat Giants Women won the toss and elected to bat first in the match.
Batting first, Gujarat Giants Women made 201/7 in 20 overs with Sophia Dunkley hitting a quick 28-ball 65 runs and Harleen Deol making 45-ball 67 runs. Sophia Dunkley became the player to hit the fastest half-century in WPL history as she completed her half-century in just 18 balls.
Shreyanka Patil and Heather Knight took two wickets each for Royal Challengers Bangalore Women in the match. Megan Schutt and Renuka Singh find a wicket each for the team in the match. The Royal Challengers Bangalore Women provided two extras to GG Women in the match while bowling.
Sophie Devine made-ball 45-ball 66 runs in the match for Royal Challengers Bangalore Women while chasing the target but the team couldn’t convert the match into a win as the bowlers from GG Women didn’t let RCB Women go far from 190 runs in the second inning. Heather Knight with 30*(11)( and Shreyanka Patil with 11*(4) were in the batting for the team before the team finished the chase at 190/6 in 20 overs.
Ashleigh Gardner took three wickets for Gujarat Giants Women in the match with Annabel Sutherland finding two wickets in her name joined by Mansi Joshi with a wicket in the wicket-taking party.
After the first win in the WPL, Gujarat Giants Women have two points in the points table while Royal Challengers Bangalore Women are yet to find a win in the league. GGW is ranked 4th in the points table followed by RCBW at the fifth position.
