England Test captain Ben Stokes has been roped in by MI Cape Town for the SA20 2025 season, which is a signing of great magnitude for the side. Stokes is still recovering from a hamstring tear, which should see him fit in time for this tournament, running between January 9 to February 8, 2025. His injury has already ruled him out of the Northern Superchargers’ campaign in The Hundred, but the ECB is optimistic about his readiness for the Test tour of Pakistan, starting in October.
MI Cape Town gather star-studded players for SA20 2025
Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai is another all-rounder on the MI Cape Town roster and he, too, is set to make his league debut. The pre-signed stars are Rashid Khan, Trent Boult, Nuwan Thushara, and Chris Benjamin. Thushara and Benjamin who were retained after their fine performances throughout the last season while representing MI Cape Town.
It will be further strengthened by a strong contingent of top domestic talent, led by Kagiso Rabada. The franchises of the SA20 have focussed very much on signing English players in the current season, bearing in mind that most of them would not be available next year due to England’s tour of India scheduled for 2024.
Other English high-profile signings from the draft include Joe Root for Paarl Royals, Ollie Pope for Pretoria Capitals, and Jonny Bairstow and Chris Woakes for Joburg Super Kings and Durban’s Super Giants. Joining Sunrisers Eastern Cape is Zak Crawley, who is part of the team that won the last two editions of the SA20.
