Sussex County Cricket Club has announced that Pakistan all-rounder, Shadab Khan, will be representing them in the upcoming Vitality Blast T20 tournament in 2023. The club expressed their excitement in a press release, stating that Khan will be joining the Sussex Sharks for the entirety of the Blast campaign.
Shadab Khan has had a successful career representing Pakistan in the T20 format, having made his debut in 2017 against the West Indies. He won the player of the match in the first two matches and took a total of 7 wickets for 21 runs during the series. He has played 84 T20Is for Pakistan and has 98 wickets, making him the highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in the T20 format.
In addition to his bowling skills, Shadab has also demonstrated his abilities as a batsman in 38 T20I innings, scoring 476 runs at a strike-rate of 143.8 and a highest score of 52. He was also appointed as the vice-captain for Pakistan’s limited over teams in 2021.
Shadab expressed his excitement in joining Sussex, stating that it’s an honor to follow in the footsteps of the legendary Pakistan spinner, Mushtaq Ahmed, who also played for Sussex. He stated, “I love playing cricket in England. I know Mushtaq Ahmed is a legend at Sussex and it’s an honour to follow in his footsteps. Sussex has a proud history and I hope that my skillset will help the team achieve great things in the Blast this year.”
Sussex Bowling Coach, James Kirtley, also commented on Shadab’s addition to the team, saying, “Shadab will provide amazing experience in our middle order. He is someone who has played all around the world and has experienced many situations, which can only benefit our team.” He went on to praise Shadab’s flexibility and ability to score runs and take wickets in crucial moments, as well as his experience and support as a captain.
