Former Indian cricketers Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Suresh Raina are under scrutiny after a video allegedly showing them mocking disabled people went viral. The video, shared by the cricketers on Instagram, appeared to be from their dressing room after winning the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024 against Pakistan. It featured Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, and Gurkeerat Singh Mann attempting to recreate actor Vicky Kaushal’s viral dance step from the song “Tauba Tauba.”

NPRD slams former Indian cricketers

Harbhajan Singh humorously captioned the Instagram post, mentioning sore bodies from the legends cricket tournament. However, disability activists condemned the video, calling it insensitive and in poor taste. The National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) labelled the video “totally disgraceful” in a post on X (formerly Twitter). They described the cricketers’ behavior as boorish and emphasized that such actions are especially disgraceful when displayed by national heroes.

“Totally disgraceful. No words are sufficient enough to condemn such behaviour specially when displayed by people considered national heroes. Such degrading actions only exposes their total insensitivity and boorishness,” it wrote in a post on X.

In response to the backlash, Harbhajan Singh issued a justification for the video on X, clarifying that it was meant to reflect their sore bodies after 15 days of continuous cricket. He emphasized that there was no intention to hurt anyone’s sentiments and expressed respect for every individual and community. Harbhajan apologized if people felt offended by the video and asked everyone to move forward and stay happy and healthy.

“Just wanted to clear to our people who are complaining about our recent videos of Tauba Tauba on social media after winning the championship here in England. We didn’t want to hurt anyone’s sentiments. We respect every individual and community. And this video was just to reflect to our bodies after playing continues cricket for 15 days. Sore bodies, we are not trying to insult or offend anyone.. still if people think we have done something wrong. All I can say from my side. Sorry to everyone .. please let’s stop this here and move forward. Stay happy and healthy. Love to all. Regards,” Harbhajan wrote.
