A new international cricket tournament, the Global Super League T20, is set to debut in Guyana from 26 November to 7 December 2024. Featuring five teams from different countries, including the Guyana Amazon Warriors, the tournament promises high-stakes competition with a US$1 million prize fund.

This event, South America’s first standalone cricket tournament, is sanctioned by Cricket West Indies and strongly supported by the Government of Guyana. It will take place at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence and will become an annual event, bringing in different international teams each season.

The format includes a mini-league of 11 matches, with each team playing four games. The top two teams will then advance to the final, creating a fast-paced and exciting tournament.

  • President of Guyana, Dr. Mohammed Irfaan Ali, emphasized the event’s role in promoting Guyana’s sports tourism and economic diversification, stating:
“Cricket is part of our cultural history, and we are proud to bring a world-class tournament to our shores as Guyana positions itself on the global stage.”
  • Sir Clive Lloyd, Chairman of Global Super League, added:
“The passion for cricket in Guyana rivals anywhere in the world, and we are excited to share this love for the game with fans globally.”

This groundbreaking event will help put Guyana on the map as a cricketing and tourism hub, with the promise of attracting fans from around the world.
