In a sensational display of teamwork and resilience, the Gulf Giants pulled off a stunning 19-run victory over the Dubai Capitals in the 24th match of the DP World ILT20 season 2. This was the lowest total successfully defended in the tournament’s history.
Giants Claw Back From Low Score:
Put in to bat first, the Giants were skittled out for a paltry 126 thanks to a fiery spell by Olly Stone (4/14) and Scott Kuggeleijn (3/29) for the Capitals. However, skipper James Vince (32) and Shimron Hetmyer (34) provided a glimmer of hope with a crucial 51-run partnership.
Capitals Falter in Chase:
Despite a decent start, the Capitals’ chase fell apart due to some brilliant fielding by the Giants, with Vince himself effecting two crucial run-outs. Dasun Shanaka (24*) fought hard for the Capitals, but the dismissal of Haider Ali for a run-out sealed their fate as they were bowled out for 107.
Vince Hailed as Hero:
Vince was adjudged Player of the Match for his all-round performance, praising his team’s fielding and bowling efforts. “We knew it would be tough, but the run-outs and catches were crucial, and the bowlers did brilliantly,” he said.
Brief scores:
Gulf Giants 126 for 9 in 20 overs (James Vince 32, Shimron Hetmyer 34, Scott Kuggeleijn 3 for 29, Olly Stone 4 for 14); Dubai Capitals 107 in 18.3 overs (Dasun Shanaka 24n.o, Aayan Afzal Khan 2 for 8)
