Warriors Stay Unbeaten with Commanding Win Over Capitals in GSL 2025
The Guyana Amazon Warriors lit up the National Stadium in Providence on a spirited Sunday night, delivering a crushing 57-run victory over the Dubai Capitals in Match 6 of the 2025 Global Super League (GSL).
The result propelled the Warriors to the top of the GSL standings, remaining unbeaten with back-to-back wins in the tournament.
Early Stumbles, Then Moeen Magic
After being sent in to bat, the Warriors faced early turbulence. The top-order trio of Rahmanullah Gurbaz (0), Johnson Charles (11), and Shimron Hetmyer (14) departed within the powerplay, sending nerves through the local crowd.
Enter Moeen Ali, the seasoned English all-rounder, who stabilized the innings. Moeen stitched together a vital 43-run stand with teenager Jewel Andrew, showing resilience and class. His second act, a brisk 47-run partnership with Sherfane Rutherford, gave Guyana the momentum they desperately needed.
Kaleem Sana was the pick of the bowlers for Dubai, using his left-arm seam to stifle scoring opportunities, but the late fireworks from Romario Shepherd — returning for his first match of the season — nudged the Warriors to a defendable 138/7.
Imran Tahir Leads the Bowling Onslaught
What followed was a bowling masterclass.
Dwaine Pretorius opened the floodgates by dismissing Rohan Mustafa early. Then, Romario Shepherd struck twice in one over, turning the screws on the Capitals.
From that point, it became the Imran Tahir Show. The 45-year-old veteran leg-spinner bewitched the middle and lower order with flight, guile, and unmatched intensity, finishing with sensational figures of 4/12 — the best in the tournament so far.
Moeen Ali and Gudakesh Motie chimed in with wickets as the Capitals’ resistance crumbled, bowled out for a mere 81 in 15.3 overs.
Table-Toppers and Title Contenders
The win not only marked the Warriors’ second consecutive triumph, but also sent a powerful message to the rest of the competition. With a net run rate boost and momentum firmly on their side, Guyana look like early favorites for a finals berth.
Meanwhile, the Dubai Capitals — now with a mixed record — must regroup quickly ahead of their do-or-die clash against defending champions Rangpur Riders.
What’s Next?
The Warriors return to action on Wednesday against Hobart Hurricanes XI in what promises to be another crowd-puller in Providence.
