The Guyana Amazon Warriors stormed into the Caribbean Premier League 2025 playoffs with a resounding 64-run victory over the Barbados Royals in Providence. The win secured the Warriors a crucial top-two finish, setting up a blockbuster clash against Saint Lucia Kings in Qualifier 1.
Hetmyer Leads the Charge
The Warriors’ innings was built around a stunning knock from Shimron Hetmyer, who smashed 68 off 39 balls with seven fours and four sixes. His aggressive strokeplay kept the Royals on the back foot throughout.
At the other end, Quentin Sampson continued his strong form with a composed 50 off 36 balls, settling the debate about his role at the top of the order. Shai Hope (31 off 22) provided stability in the middle, while Romario Shepherd added late fireworks with a 12-ball cameo.
Despite some resistance from Sherfane Rutherford (2/35) and Daniel Sams (1/34), the Royals’ bowling lacked penetration as the Warriors posted an imposing 189/6 in 20 overs.
Royals Falter Under Pressure
Chasing 190, the Royals’ hopes were shattered early. Dwaine Pretorius struck in the opening spell, while Shamar Joseph’s fiery pace dismantled Rassie van der Dussen with a delivery that uprooted the off stump.
From there, the innings unraveled. Gudakesh Motie spun a web around the middle and lower order, producing a career-best 5/21 in 3.2 overs. Only Kofi James (26 off 13) showed resistance, but the Royals were eventually bundled out for 125 in 18.2 overs.
The defeat capped a disappointing campaign for the Royals, who finished at the bottom of the CPL 2025 table.
