Cricketer Haider Ali has been suspended, according to what can be called an official word from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as it responds to a criminal investigation being carried out by Greater Manchester Police. The 24-year-old cricketer has been placed under provisional suspension while UK authorities examine an incident that reportedly took place during Pakistan Shaheens’ recent tour of England.
Although the PCB has not disclosed the nature of the case, it confirmed that Ali’s suspended status will remain in effect until the investigation concludes. The board has underlined its support for due process and confirmed that Haider is receiving appropriate legal counsel to ensure his rights are safeguarded.
Haider Ali suspended: What has the PCB said so far?
In its official statement, the PCB stated that the suspension was imposed in line with its policy to uphold both player welfare and international legal standards. “The PCB fully respects the legal procedures and processes of the United Kingdom and acknowledges the importance of allowing the investigation to run its due course,” read the statement.
This move means Ali’s suspended status is effective immediately, and no further public comments will be made by the board until the legal process is complete. If required, PCB may take disciplinary action based on the outcome, under its established Code of Conduct.
The right-handed batter has represented Pakistan in 2 ODIs and 35 T20 Internationals since debuting in 2020. Known for his aggressive stroke play, Haider has accumulated 547 runs across formats, with three half-centuries to his name. He was also part of Pakistan’s squads for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cups in both 2021 and 2022.
