In a strategic move, Hasan Ali has been released from Pakistan’s squad for the T20I series against England. This decision permits Hasan to return to county cricket with Warwickshire. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced his release on Wednesday morning, just ahead of the first T20I in Leeds. “The team management has decided to let Hasan Ali continue his commitments in county cricket,” the PCB said in a press release. Initially, Hasan was selected as injury cover for Haris Rauf.
Hasan Ali’s journey back to international cricket saw a surprising twist with his recall for Pakistan’s recent series against Ireland. Prior to this, Hasan had only played three T20Is since the 2021 T20 World Cup. His performance, however, did not live up to expectations, as evidenced by his figures of 0 for 42 in three overs during the series decider against Ireland.
The PCB has yet to announce Pakistan’s provisional squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, with the final list of 15 players due to be submitted to the ICC by Saturday. This leaves room for speculation on whether Hasan Ali will make the cut for the global tournament.
Warwickshire expressed surprise at Hasan’s initial recall to international cricket. Now, with his release, Hasan is set to rejoin Warwickshire for their County Championship match against Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford, starting on Friday. He is also expected to participate in the T20 Blast, beginning next week, and will remain with Warwickshire until the end of July.
Warwickshire has been dealing with its own set of challenges. Aamer Jamal, another Pakistani player, has struggled for form, taking just one wicket in his first two appearances. Jamal lost his place after a defeat to Essex. Mark Robinson, Warwickshire’s coach, noted Jamal’s struggle for rhythm and pace. The club responded by signing Michael Rae on a short-term contract, who impressed with five wickets against Essex. Additionally, injuries to several bowlers led to Che Simmons making his first-class debut.
As Hasan Ali prepares to reintegrate with Warwickshire, both the county side and the Pakistan team look to solidify their rosters amidst ongoing competitions and impending deadlines.
