Hayley Matthews Unveiled as CPL Ambassador to Drive Women’s Cricket and Health Awareness
The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has officially named Hayley Matthews as its new tournament ambassador, bringing star power and social purpose to the forefront of its 2025 season.
Matthews, the West Indies Women’s captain and T20 World Cup champion, is not only a force with bat and ball, but also a vocal advocate for inclusivity and well-being. In her new role, she will spearhead initiatives to empower young women through cricket and promote healthier lifestyles across the Caribbean.
Empowering the Next Generation of Women Cricketers
One of the central focuses of Matthews’ ambassadorship is expanding access to cricket for girls and women. She will collaborate with CPL franchises, regional boards, and schools to lead grassroots clinics, mentorship programs, and community outreach events designed to remove barriers and provide opportunities for aspiring female cricketers.
Her hands-on presence will inspire young players not just to play the game, but to dream big.
Promoting Health and Wellness Through Sport
Matthews’ influence extends beyond the boundary ropes. As a high-performance athlete managing Type 1 diabetes, she is uniquely positioned to lead conversations around mental health, nutrition, and physical fitness. CPL will roll out regional wellness campaigns, with Matthews championing messages about resilience, balance, and self-care.
This includes hosting wellness-focused events like the upcoming CPL Health & Wellness Day at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex and participating in the CPL Trophy Tour at Barbados’ National Botanical Gardens.
A Game-Changing Appointment for the CPL
“Hayley’s appointment aligns with our long-term vision of making the CPL a more inclusive and socially impactful tournament,” said CPL CEO Pete Russell. “She is a role model for the region and the world, and we are excited for the energy and purpose she brings.”
In response, Matthews expressed her excitement: “Joining CPL in this capacity is deeply meaningful to me. I want young girls to see cricket as a path open to them and use my story to inspire healthier, active lives.”
