Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq is set to face a substantial setback in his cricketing career as he receives a 20-month ban from ILT20 (International League Twenty20) for a breach of contract. The Sharjah Warriors’ player participated in nine matches earlier this year, and the ban stems from his failure to adhere to the terms outlined in the Player Agreement with the franchise.

Despite being offered a contract extension for Season 2, Naveen-ul-Haq declined to sign the retention notice, leading to a contractual dispute. ILT20 CEO David White stressed the significance of contractual compliance in a released statement, underlining the league’s commitment to upholding the integrity of player agreements.

Disciplinary proceedings were conducted with transparency, providing both Naveen and the Sharjah Warriors with opportunities to present their submissions. The league imposed the 20-month ban, emphasizing the seriousness of Naveen’s non-compliance with contractual obligations.

Efforts for mediation through an independent third party proved unsuccessful, prompting the formation of a Disciplinary Committee. The committee, featuring ILT20 CEO David White, Col. Azam, and Zayed Abbas, carefully deliberated on the matter before reaching the decision to ban Naveen-ul-Haq.

David says,

“We do not take pride in making this announcement but all parties are expected to comply with their contractual commitments and recognize that non-compliance can cause damage to the other party. Unfortunately, Naveen-ul-Haq failed to honour his contractual obligations with the Sharjah Warriors and as such the league had no option but to impose this 20-month ban on him.

“The disciplinary proceedings against Naveen were conducted in a transparent manner and both parties involved were given opportunities to prepare and present their submissions.”

Naveen’s actions are considered to have caused damage to the Sharjah Warriors, justifying the disciplinary measures taken. ILT20 underscores the importance of all parties recognizing the potential harm resulting from non-compliance with contractual obligations. The ban, a consequence of Naveen-ul-Haq’s refusal to sign the retention notice under agreed terms, serves as a robust measure to maintain the league’s integrity.
