In a bid to surpass Pakistan’s record for the most T20I wins, India are poised to take on Australia in the third T20I at 7 PM IST today. Currently tied with Pakistan at 135 victories in 211 games, India have an opportunity to claim their 136th T20I win from 212 matches if they emerge victorious in the upcoming clash. Leading the series 2-0, India, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, has displayed remarkable prowess with a second-string side.
Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy has been pivotal in India’s success, steering the team towards a commanding position in the series. The Indian squad also boasts an impressive unbeaten T20I streak of 12 games at home, with their last loss dating back to 2019 against Australia.
The Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati is set to host the crucial third match, where India aims to not only secure the series but also etch their name in T20I history by surpassing Pakistan’s record. On the other side, the Australian squad presents a mix of experienced and young players, with up to six members having been part of the recently triumphant World Cup 2023 squad that defeated India in the final.
Pat Cummins, who led the Australian side in the World Cup, acknowledges the challenges posed by a demanding schedule. Highlighting the physical toll on players, he emphasizes that they are not robots, particularly as they transition straight from the World Cup to the T20I series against India. This taxing schedule has prompted Australia to make substantial changes, with only Travis Head remaining in the squad while new players are being sent in for the series.
As the teams gear up for the third T20I showdown, the Barsapara Stadium is sure to witness a battle not only for series supremacy but also for India to stake their claim as the new record-holder for the most T20I wins.
