Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mayank Yadav is on the verge of making a comeback to action after resuming bowling in the nets, signaling positive signs for the team ahead of their upcoming matches.
Assistant coach S Sriram provided updates on Mayank’s progress on the eve of LSG’s match against Rajasthan Royals, expressing optimism about the young bowler’s recovery.
“He’s bowling today in the nets,” Sriram disclosed. “So we’ll find out how he pulls up after today, he’s pretty close, so ya hopefully, fingers crossed.”
Mayank made an impactful debut for LSG this season, earning the Player of the Match accolade in two consecutive games for his exceptional three-wicket hauls. However, his promising start was hampered by abdominal soreness, forcing him to leave the field after just one over against Gujarat Titans. Since then, Mayank has missed four games, raising concerns about LSG’s bowling attack.
Despite his injury setbacks, Mayank’s talent and potential have been widely recognized. Former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop advocated for investing in Mayank’s development to prevent further injuries.
“This guy is a diamond,” Bishop emphasized. “Let us see if we can allocate some sort of funding and see where this goes.”
He proposed personalized strength-and-conditioning training, medical support, and dietary guidance to nurture Mayank’s talent effectively.
S Sriram commended Mayank’s maturity and cricketing acumen, praising his execution and accuracy over sheer pace.
“The number 155 is a by-product of his rhythm,” Sriram noted. “But accuracy with which he’s bowled has stood out, and for me, that is critical.”
LSG, currently fourth in the points table with five wins in eight matches, eagerly anticipate Mayank’s return to bolster their bowling unit. His absence has been felt in the lineup, especially considering his impactful performances earlier in the season. The team is hopeful that Mayank’s comeback will provide the necessary depth to their bowling resources and contribute to their continued success.
As LSG gear up to face Rajasthan Royals, they aim to maintain their winning momentum, buoyed by recent victories against Chennai Super Kings. Mayank’s potential return adds a layer of optimism and anticipation to the team’s preparations, as they strive to solidify their position in the IPL standings and make a strong push towards playoff contention.
