The much-awaited mega auction for IPL 2025 is finally happening. For the first time in the history of the Indian Premier League, the event would be conducted outside India. Set for November 24 and 25, it will clash with the India-Australia Test series, fueling more excitement for Indian cricket fans. It will be the second time that the IPL auction will be held outside India. BCCI has selected Riyadh as its venue for the big day.
Punjab Kings will also be entering the mega-auction for IPL 2025 in Riyadh with the highest of Rs 110.5 crores. The uncapped batsmen Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh are already on its roster, so that lineup is looking promising. They retained Sanju Samson, Yashaswi Jaiswal, and Sandeep Sharma among all those players, which made Rajasthan Royals the one team that had the smallest budget. Now you must have seen a headline somewhere about how the one uncapped player, after 6 years from having last represented India, named Sandeep, earned a Rs 4-cr retainer.
IPL 2025 mega auction: Teams set to finalize squads
The dynamics bring an added twist with Punjab Kings possibly using four RTM cards. The stakes for franchises like Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders will, therefore, be much higher at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Riyadh.
Among the most prominent bidders is the title-winning captain of IPL 2024 Shreyas Iyer, who led the Kolkata Knight Riders to their third-ever IPL title. However, Iyer and KKR failed to strike a retention deal, so he formed one of the biggest names at this auction. Former Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant, who had played for DC for nine seasons, decided not to retain and will also be one of the major names going into the IPL 2025 mega auction in Riyadh.
KL Rahul, whom Lucknow Super Giants signed for Rs 17 crore, will also be available. While Rahul led LSG to the playoffs, his team never reached the IPL final, which sets up a potential ripple of changes as teams push to build more robust squads.
