Zeeshan Ansari, the talented Indian cricketer, made a remarkable entry into the Indian Premier League (IPL) with an impressive performance for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Despite SRH facing a seven-wicket defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC) on March 30, 2025, Ansari’s bowling stood out as a beacon of hope. The leg-spinner from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, picked up three key wickets in his debut match, showcasing his potential on the grand stage.
A Promising Start in IPL 2025
In his first IPL appearance, Ansari delivered a spell of four overs, claiming three crucial wickets for 42 runs. His breakthrough came in the 10th over when he dismissed Faf du Plessis, who was looking in fine form.
He followed it up by removing Jake Fraser-McGurk and KL Rahul in quick succession, proving his ability to trouble top-order batters. While Delhi secured a comfortable victory, Ansari’s skill and determination earned him praise from cricketing experts and fans alike.
Cricketing Journey and Domestic Success
Zeeshan Ansari’s rise to prominence began in domestic cricket, particularly in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League, where he emerged as the highest wicket-taker in the second edition. Representing the Meerut Mavericks, he scalped 24 wickets in 12 matches at an economy rate of 7.60.
His stellar performances played a crucial role in his team’s title-winning campaign and caught the attention of IPL franchises. As a result, SRH secured his services in the IPL 2025 mega-auction for INR 40 lakhs.
From U-19 World Cup to First-Class Cricket
Ansari was part of the India U-19 squad in the 2016 World Cup, rubbing shoulders with future stars like Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, and Washington Sundar. He made his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh in 2017, featuring in five matches and claiming 17 wickets.
His best first-class figures stand at 3/33, while his overall bowling average remains an impressive 30.76. Though he last represented Uttar Pradesh in 2020, his resurgence in the domestic T20 circuit reignited his cricketing journey.

At 25, Ansari is poised to make a significant impact in the IPL and beyond. His debut performance has already demonstrated his knack for handling pressure, and he will be eager to build on this foundation.
