IPL has no competitors, says IPL chairman

The Chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Arun Singh Dhumal, confidently states that the cash-rich T20 event remains unchallenged despite the emergence of new leagues worldwide. With its ability to attract top players and coaches, the IPL boasts an estimated brand value of $8.4 billion. Dhumal made his position clear, affirming, “We don’t see anyone else as our competition, there is none even close to IPL.”

While new T20 leagues have been established in the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, and the upcoming Major League Cricket in the United States, Dhumal remains unwavering in his belief that these ventures pose no threat to the IPL’s dominance. He extended his best wishes to these leagues but maintained that none of them could rival the IPL’s stature.

Reflecting on the recently concluded IPL season, which saw the Chennai Super Kings emerge victorious, Dhumal expressed his delight. He attributed the tournament’s phenomenal success to its intense competitiveness, with many matches going down to the wire and providing thrilling last-over moments. The response from fans was overwhelming, leading to a significant increase in viewership and excitement from both broadcast and digital partners. Furthermore, Dhumal praised the extraordinary in-stadium experience for fans and promised that it would only improve in the future.

When questioned about the possibility of increasing the $11.5 million salary cap for each IPL franchise, Dhumal clarified that any decision would require consultation with the franchises and team owners. Although there is still ample time before the next IPL season, discussions must be held before any adjustments can be made.

Dhumal dismissed rumors suggesting that the IPL planned to host matches in Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that it was the International Cricket Council’s responsibility to expand the game beyond traditional boundaries. While acknowledging that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has assisted other nations in the past, he clarified that the notion of a T20 league in Saudi Arabia was mere speculation.

With its unrivaled status and continued success, the IPL remains firmly positioned as the premier T20 league in the world, capturing the attention of fans, players, and broadcasters alike.
