Ireland Women’s cricket team has unveiled its 15-player squad for the upcoming white-ball series scheduled to take place in Spain from October 17th to October 24th. This series holds significant importance as it features three ODIs followed by two T20Is, marking a historic moment for Scotland, who will be playing their first official ODIs since gaining that status in 2022.
All these thrilling encounters are set to unfold in the picturesque venue of Deserts Springs in Spain. The ODIs are slated for the 17th, 19th, and 21st of October, while the T20Is will follow on the 23rd and 24th of the same month.
Head Coach of Ireland Women, Ed Joyce, expressed his enthusiasm for this series, highlighting its timeliness in the team’s preparations for the upcoming events, especially the T20 World Cup in 2024, which they are eager to qualify for. Joyce emphasized the blend of youth and experience in the squad, showcasing the team’s commitment to nurturing emerging talents.
Among the fresh faces in the squad, Joanna Loughran stands out. The Leinster Cricket Club’s wicketkeeper-batter is making her senior squad debut, having previously represented Ireland in the Under-19 Women’s Cricket World Cup in February. Joanna’s remarkable year in 2023, including her debut in the Evoke Super Series, has earned her a well-deserved spot in the senior squad.
Alana Dalzell, a seam bowling all-rounder from Bready, is making her return to the senior setup after her solitary appearance for Ireland against South Africa last year. Her inclusion highlights the team’s faith in her abilities.
Additionally, the 17-year-old Freya Sargent from Clontarf is a promising addition to the squad. Her consistent performances and game awareness during the recent Netherlands series garnered recognition from coaches and selectors.
The Ireland Women’s squad, led by Laura Delany, boasts a balanced mix of youth and experience, creating an exciting dynamic that promises competitive cricket during the upcoming series in Spain.
