The Jamaica Tallawahs kept their 2023 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) playoff hopes alive with a convincing 59-run victory over the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Saturday.
The Tallawahs won the toss and chose to bat first, but they lost two early wickets to King and Kirk McKenzie. However, a 62-run seventh-wicket partnership between Shamar Springer (38) and Fabian Allen (33) helped the Tallawahs post a respectable total of 178-7 in their 20 overs.
The Patriots’ chase got off to a poor start, as they lost their top four batsmen within the first seven overs. Yannic Cariah put up a valiant fight with a 40-ball 65, but he was eventually dismissed by Mohammad Amir, who finished with figures of 4-21.
The Patriots were eventually bowled out for 119 in 17.3 overs, handing the Tallawahs a comfortable victory.
The Tallawahs’ win was a vital one, as it kept them in the hunt for a playoff spot. They are currently in fourth place in the standings.
The Tallawahs will play their final group-stage match against the Saint Lucia Kings on Sunday. They will need to win that match and hope that other results go their way in order to qualify for the playoffs.
