Former India fast bowler Jhulan Goswami has taken on a new role as a mentor for the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) 2024. Goswami, who retired from all forms of cricket in 2022 as India’s leading wicket-taker in women’s internationals, expressed her honor and excitement at joining the quality franchise of TKR.
Goswami praised the Knight Riders for their global success and expressed her gratitude to the KKR management for considering her as a mentor. This will be her first stint in an overseas T20 league, adding to her current role as the bowling coach and mentor of the Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
TKR, led by former West Indies allrounder Deandra Dottin, has bolstered its squad with the addition of India’s Jemimah Rodrigues and Shikha Pandey, as well as Australia’s Meg Lanning and Jess Jonassen. The idea of Goswami joining TKR originated from a conversation with Mr. Venky Mysore, CEO of the Knight Riders group.
Goswami felt honored by the warm welcome from Shah Rukh Khan and Venky Mysore when they met in Kolkata during the IPL. Mysore praised Goswami as an absolute legend of the game and expressed confidence that under her mentorship, TKR Women will reach greater heights. He highlighted the opportunity for young players to learn from Goswami’s vast experience.
The WCPL 2024, running from August 21 to 29, features three teams: TKR, defending champions Barbados Royals, and Guyana Amazon Warriors. All seven matches will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba. Goswami’s involvement is seen as a significant boost for the TKR Women’s team, with the management believing her mentorship will enhance the team’s performance. Goswami looks forward to contributing to TKR and the WCPL 2024 tournament
