England pacer Jofra Archer has undergone a minor surgery on his right elbow, which kept him out of Mumbai Indians’ match against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, April 25, in the ongoing IPL 2023. This marks the fifth time Archer has undergone medical treatment in the last 25 months, which raises concerns about his fitness status.
Belgian surgeon Roger van Riet performed the procedure, which was initially feared to keep Archer out for at least four weeks. However, his return date remains unclear at the moment. Archer’s absence proved costly for Mumbai, as they lost the match to Gujarat by 55 runs.
The team’s bowling attack looked weak without the likes of Archer and Jasprit Bumrah. Gujarat’s opener Shubman Gill played a remarkable innings, and the likes of David Miller, Abhinav Manohar, and Rahul Tewatia scored runs freely in the death overs.
Mumbai’s bowlers struggled to contain the opposition, and their chase was equally disappointing. Despite needing a rapid start, Mumbai lost wickets in quick succession and could only post a score of 152 on the board. As a result, they remain seventh on the IPL Points Table, while Gujarat with five wins have moved to the second spot.
Jofra Archer’s recurring injury issues have been a concern for some time, and this latest setback only adds to the worries. The Englishman is a crucial player for both Mumbai Indians and England’s national team, and his fitness status will be closely monitored in the coming weeks.
