Jozi Stars super excited with the draft results

Reigning Mzansi Super League Champions, the Jozi Stars, are super excited and will be ready to smash records and capture hearts with fantastic Draft signings coupled with a localized marketing campaign befitting the tournament.

Under the over-arching season theme “Beat your Best”, the Mzansi Super League team of Jozi Stars will exercise their marketing expertise with the “Beat the best in the game” – a hashtag fondly captured as #Azishe.

Wanele Mngomezulu, Central Gauteng Lions Marketing and Communications Manager, says that his team has worked tirelessly towards creating a through-the-line campaign that puts the fans at the heart of the game.

“We’ve gone with a bullish approach at the Bullring this season: We want to beat the best in the game – both on the field and off it. What makes #JoziStars great is our fans who are young at heart, fun-loving, unconventional, driven and ambitious: they are the source that fuels our excellence. The #JoziStars brand seeks to serve as a reminder about the greatness of ‘Joburgers’, their belief that they can achieve what they set their minds to, hence the 2019 brand campaign: Jozi Stars ‘#Azishe…beat the best in the game.”

On the field, it’ll be Coach Donovan Miller (Windies) as well as Assistant Coach Wandile Gwavu who have been tasked to lead the team. Along with their expert selection team, the pair secured the likes of new signings Temba Bavuma, Aaron Phangiso, Delano Potgieter, Eathan Bosch and Lizaad Williams.

Retained players include:

  1. Kagiso Rabada
  2. Chris Gayle (Windies)
  3. Daniel Christian (Australia)
  4. Reeza Hendricks
  5. Rassie van der Dussen
  6. Ryan Rickelton
  7. Nono Pongolo
  8. Sinethemba Qeshile
  9. Duanne Olivier
  10. Simon Harmer

Assistant Coach Gwavu says they are pleased with the chosen squad: “We certainly got what we wanted out here today. We are pleased with the 2019 Jozi Stars team – both new signings and our retained champion winning players. We are ready to defend our title and beat the best that the Mzansi Super League has to offer.”
