Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced a setback as their pacer Harshit Rana, incurred a fine and suspension from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for breaching the Code of Conduct during an IPL 2024 clash against Delhi Capitals (DC). The 22-year-old had been a standout performer in the tournament, scalping 11 wickets, but his actions during the match against DC grabbed headlines for the wrong reasons.
Rana’s previous transgression, where he was fined heavily for a similar offense against Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Mayank Agarwal, was repeated during the encounter with DC. After dismissing Abhishek Porel, despite being hit for boundaries, Rana celebrated by gesturing Porel towards the dugout, resulting in another breach of conduct.
Consequently, BCCI penalized Rana once more, imposing a fine and suspending him for one match, making him the first player in IPL 2024 to face such disciplinary action.
Despite Rana’s indiscretions, DC emerged victorious in the match, comfortably chasing down KKR’s target of 154 runs. Phil Salt led the charge for DC with a brilliant knock of 68 runs off 33 balls, supported by skipper Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer, securing their sixth victory in the tournament.

In contrast, KKR’s Sunil Narine had a subdued outing, departing for just 15 runs. However, the team’s fortunes were bolstered by contributions from Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer, guiding them to a crucial win and strengthening their position in the IPL points table.
While DC struggled to build substantial partnerships, Kuldeep Yadav emerged as their top scorer with 35 runs. However, their efforts fell short as KKR’s bowling attack, led by Varun Chakarvarthy, restricted them from posting a formidable total, sealing KKR’s victory in the encounter.
