As the countdown to IPL 2025 begins, excitement is at an all-time high. However, the road to the tournament has been anything but smooth for several franchises, with a spate of injuries leaving teams in a difficult position. Key players across multiple squads have been ruled out or remain doubtful, forcing teams to rethink their strategies before the first ball is bowled. This blog lists down team-wise all injured players before IPL 2025.
Injury Concerns Shake Up Team Compositions
While the T20 format often highlights batting brilliance, the absence of some premier bowlers and all-rounders could significantly impact the competition’s dynamics. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finds itself in a tough spot after shelling out a whopping ₹12.5 crore for Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood, whose participation remains in question due to a lingering side strain. The injury, sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, kept him out of the Champions Trophy, and his fitness status for IPL 2025 is still up in the air.
RCB’s injury concerns are not limited to Hazlewood. Young English batter Jacob Bethell is struggling with a hamstring injury, putting his participation in doubt. The franchise, aiming for a strong campaign, will have to make contingency plans if these key players remain unavailable.
Similarly, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) are dealing with uncertainties in their bowling attacks. Anrich Nortje’s fitness remains a concern, while Gerald Coetzee’s injuries have already forced him to miss significant game time, leaving GT short on firepower.
Lucknow Super Giants Face Major Setbacks
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are grappling with multiple injury concerns ahead of the tournament. The young and promising speedster Mayank Yadav, who impressed in IPL 2024, is still recovering from a lumbar stress injury sustained during the Bangladesh series. His prolonged absence is a major blow to LSG’s bowling unit.
Adding to their woes, Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh continues to battle a lower back injury that ruled him out of the Champions Trophy. His uncertain availability leaves LSG in a tough spot, as they banked on his dual skill set to bolster their lineup.
Mumbai Indians’ Double Setback
Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) are no strangers to handling pressure, but heading into IPL 2025, they have already suffered double injury blows. South African pacer Lizaad Williams has been ruled out due to a knee injury, prompting MI to find a replacement ahead of the season.
Adding to their concerns, young Afghanistan spinner Allah Ghazanfar has also been ruled out, leaving MI with fewer bowling options as they look to bounce back from a lacklustre IPL 2024 campaign.
With IPL 2025 on the horizon, teams are scrambling to find solutions to these setbacks. Replacement signings, tactical adjustments, and fitness updates will be crucial in the coming weeks as franchises attempt to keep their championship aspirations intact.
