The maiden edition of the Major League Cricket (MLC) is all set to get underway on June 13th. The lucrative league will feature six teams including Los Angeles Knight Riders, MI New York, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcas, Texas Super Kings, and Washington Freedom, that will take the field at Grand Prairie Stadium.
Throughout the tournament, 18 matches will take place before the inaugural MLC Final scheduled for July 30th. The league will denote top-rated cricketers from all over the world including Jason Roy, Quinton de Kock, Wanindu Hasaranga, Marco Jansen and others alongside the best domestic talent in the USA.
As the league advances toward the playing stage, it has announced a new sponsor deal with Royal, who are the cultivators of authentic basmati and sona masoori rice, atta wheat flour, and Indian ready meals. The brand will serve as the MLC’s partner for the league for its debut season.
Notably, this US-based Indian company will honour the top run-scorers and wicket-takers as Royal leading run-scorer and Royal leading wicket-taker on the final day, July 30th. In some of the games, MLC will also serve South Asian cuisines to the fans across the stadium.
Abhinav Arora, President of LT Foods Americas, the renowned global culinary enterprise behind the Royal brand, said, “We’re excited to partner with Major League Cricket to bring the culture, cuisine and vibrant flavours of South Asia to cricket fans in the United States. Much like cricket, the love for Royal® Basmati Rice transcends borders and cultures and we’re excited for fans of all backgrounds to experience the joy of cricket and delicious authentic Indian foods that are a source of comfort and celebration.”
Justin Geale, MLC Tournament Director, said, “MLC is thrilled to welcome the Royal® brand onboard as an official partner. Royal has proven to be a strong supporter of American cricket sharing MLC’s long-term vision to build the sport for the vast community of fans of the game here in the United States. We can’t wait to see which superstar player captures the Royal Leading Run Scorer award this summer!”
