The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have appointed Mallika Sagar as the auctioneer of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The very first edition of the WPL is going to see its auction on 13 February 2023 at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai (more details).
Mallika Sagar will be auctioning on the cricket field for the first time. She is the first women auctioneer of Indian origin for Christie’s, a world-leading art and luxury business.
As reported by the sportsstar, the BCCI insiders think that it was a ‘well thought of’ idea to get an Indian women auctioneer for the WPL as it would help in creating the right brand proposition. Since the auction was held at a short notice, logistics was also a factor.
The first-ever auction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is going to be held on 13 February where the five franchises who won the franchise bidding (see here) will participate to buy the players from the Players Auction List (see).
The five teams of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will have to have at least 15 players in their squad where they can go up to 18 at maximum. Out of the purchases they make, they can buy up to six overseas players. The list of overseas players a team buy must have an associate player compulsorily.
Each team should spend a minimum of 9 crore in the auction while they enter the WPL auction 2023 with a total purse of 12 crore Indian Rupees.
