The prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has made an exciting announcement regarding the World Cricket Committee (WCC), an independent body consisting of esteemed international cricketers, officials, and umpires from around the world. Today, we celebrate the addition of three legendary cricketers to the WCC: Jhulan Goswami, Heather Knight, and Eoin Morgan. Their induction into the committee comes just in time for the upcoming meeting at Lord’s on Monday, June 26.

Jhulan Goswami, the former Indian cricketer, bid farewell to the game in 2022 during an ODI against England at Lord’s. Regarded as one of the fastest bowlers in women’s cricket, she holds the record for the most wickets in Women’s ODIs, with an impressive tally of 255 scalps from 204 matches. Additionally, Goswami has the highest number of wickets in the Women’s World Cup, amassing 43 dismissals from 34 matches. In recognition of her exceptional contributions, she was honored as an Honorary Life Member of MCC in April earlier this year.

Heather Knight, the revered captain of the England women’s cricket team, has been leading her side since 2016. Under her captaincy, England secured a glorious victory in the ICC Women’s World Cup of 2017, defeating India in the final at Lord’s. Knight has showcased her skills in 129 ODIs and 98 T20Is, accumulating impressive batting figures of 3589 and 1583 runs, respectively. Additionally, she has been at the helm of the Lord’s-based Hundred team, London Spirit, since the inception of the competition, displaying her leadership prowess year after year.

Mike Gatting, Chairman of the MCC’s World Cricket Committee, warmly welcomed the addition of these three legendary figures ahead of their forthcoming meeting at Lord’s. Gatting expressed his confidence in their wealth of experience, emphasizing the invaluable insights they will bring to the committee. Recognizing the significance of female representation, Gatting praised their presence and the positive impact they have had on the growth of the game. He further acknowledged the contributions of Clare Connor and Suzie Bates, who, alongside Jhulan and Heather, provide firsthand insight into the women’s game.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jhulan, Heather, and Eoin to the World Cricket Committee. These are three players who have excelled at the very top of the international game, and their knowledge will be a tremendous asset to the committee,” Gatting remarked, expressing his enthusiasm.

Gatting concluded by highlighting the importance of inclusivity within the committee, particularly as women’s cricket continues to flourish. He acknowledged the growth and success of the women’s game in recent years and applauded the committee’s efforts to enhance female representation.

Prior to the addition of Jhulan Goswami, Heather Knight, and Eoin Morgan, the WCC welcomed three other notable members in February 2022: Clare Connor, Justin Langer, and Graeme Smith. With these remarkable individuals contributing their expertise and insights, the World Cricket Committee continues to evolve as a prominent institution in shaping the future of the sport.
