Meg Lanning Early Life
Meg Lanning was born on 25th March 1992 in Singapore. In 2006, at the age of 14, she became the first girl to play first 11 cricket for a public school team when she represented Carey Grammar.
Meg Lanning Cricket Life
Lanning made her debut for Victorian Spirit on 6 December 2008 against South Australian Scorpions. Despite scoring only 3 runs, Victoria won the match by 45 runs.
Her breakthrough season came in 2010-11 when she produced a man of the match performance of 74 runs from 62 balls in the women’s T20 grand final against New South Wales and led Victoria to the title.
On 10th November 2012, Lanning smashed 175 runs off 142 balls against ACT Meteors, breaking the record for the highest individual score in the women’s National Cricket League. She then surpassed her own record by scoring 190 runs in 153 balls against Tasmania women on 29th October 2016.
Meg Lanning International Career
Lanning made her T20 international debut on 30th December 2010 against New Zealand in the Rose Bowl tournament, scoring 10 runs as Australia defeated New Zealand by 4 wickets.
Her one-day international debut came on 5th January 2011 against England, and two days later in her second international game, she scored her maiden one-day international century against England.
Since then, Lanning has been a regular in the Australian women’s cricket team.
Some of her notable records are:
- She holds the record for the most hundreds in ODI’s with 13 centuries to her name.
- She averages above 50 in one-day Internationals, making her one of the best one-day women’s cricketers in the world.
- During the 2012 ICC women’s World T20, she was named in the team of the tournament after finishing as the third-highest run-scorer.
