In the ongoing 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), Mumbai Indians stalwart Rohit Sharma has found himself in an unenviable position as he notched up an unwanted batting record during the clash against the Rajasthan Royals on Monday. The former MI captain faced a disappointing dismissal, being sent back to the pavilion for a golden duck by Trent Boult.
With this dismissal, Rohit Sharma now joins Dinesh Karthik, currently representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore, at the top of the list for the most ducks in IPL history, with both players accumulating a total of 17 ducks over the years. Interestingly, out of these 17 ducks, Sharma has suffered the ignominy of five golden ducks, including the one against the Royals in a recent match. Additionally, Naman Dahir and Dewald Brevis also fell victim to Boult’s bowling prowess, succumbing to golden ducks.
Among other notable players with the most IPL ducks, the list includes Piyush Chawla, Mandeep Singh, Sunil Narine, and Glenn Maxwell, each with 15 ducks to their name. Following closely behind are Rashid Khan, Manish Pandey, and Ambati Rayudu, all of whom have 14 IPL ducks to their credit.
Shifting focus to the MI vs RR match, Mumbai Indians faced a challenging batting display as they managed to post a total of 125 runs on the board, losing nine wickets in the process. Contributions from Tilak Verma, who scored 32 runs, and Hardik Pandya, who added 34 runs, salvaged some pride for MI amidst a shaky batting performance that saw them struggling to reach the 100-run mark.
Notably, the Royals completed the target in 15.3 overs and managed to win by a decent margin of six wickets.
