During Monday’s match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings, former Indian skipper MS Dhoni enthralled the crowd with his explosive hitting against one of the world’s most hostile pacers, Mark Wood. The Chennai crowd went berserk as Dhoni smashed two back-to-back sixes off the English bowler.
The first six was a fast and furious shot, with Dhoni going for a big slash that flew over the third man. His teammates jumped for joy in the dugout, while the crowd cheered him on. However, it was the second shot that left everyone stunned. Despite the pacy bouncer, Dhoni walloped the ball over midwicket into the stands, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
Reflecting on the moment, Wood said that he and his teammate KL Rahul were trying to stay calm and work out how to get Dhoni out. Wood was not trying to be defensive, but was rather thinking of ways to stop Dhoni from scoring runs and get him out. Unfortunately, it cost him 12 runs.
The second shot in particular left Wood in awe. He had bowled the ball exactly where he and Rahul had decided, aiming for a bouncer and getting it wide so that Dhoni would have to fetch it. For Dhoni to hit it that far was pretty incredible, according to Wood.
The noise when Dhoni came out to bat and then when he hit those two balls was the loudest Wood had ever experienced in his career. He found it eye-opening but also a great experience to look back on.
MS Dhoni’s explosive hitting against Mark Wood left the crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai absolutely ecstatic. His back-to-back sixes were a demonstration of his skill and power as a batsman, leaving even one of the world’s most hostile pacers in awe.
