Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has successfully undergone knee surgery to address the persistent issue that troubled him throughout the IPL 2023 season. The 41-year-old cricketer received treatment at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Hospital after being admitted on May 31.
Dhoni had played the entire IPL season with a heavily strapped left knee and often batted as late as No.8 in the lineup. However, following the conclusion of IPL 2023, he made the decision to undergo treatment in Mumbai with renowned sports medicine specialist Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, who had previously operated on Rishabh Pant for a similar problem.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed on June 1 that he had spoken to Dhoni after the surgery and stated that the skipper sounded fine. However, Dhoni will remain at the hospital for a few more days for follow-up check-ups before being discharged.
The surgery, described as a keyhole procedure, offers hope for a successful recovery and alleviating Dhoni’s knee concerns that had impacted his performance in the IPL. The CSK captain’s commitment to seeking treatment showcases his dedication to overcoming challenges and returning to the sport he loves.
In a post-match interview after CSK’s fifth IPL title win on May 29, Dhoni hinted at a potential return and acknowledged the harder route of working hard for nine months to play another IPL. He also expressed his emotional response to the overwhelming love and support he received, describing his teary-eyed experience and the need to cherish the victorious moment.
As MS Dhoni undergoes knee surgery, fans and cricket enthusiasts eagerly await his recovery and potential comeback to the sport. The surgery presents a new chapter in Dhoni’s remarkable career, and his enduring popularity is a testament to his grounded nature and genuine persona that resonates with fans worldwide.
