We all are in the exciting phase of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 since the very first day of the tournament as an associate cricket member Namibia beat the Asian Cricket Champion Sri Lanka in the very first match of the tournament.
But, on the fifth day of the tournament, Namibia’s loss provided Cricket Netherlands with the most excitement in the tournament.
Cricket Netherlands expressed their excitement immediately through their Twitter handle when UAE defeated Namibia today as a result of which the Netherlands advances to the super-12 of the ICC Men’s T20 world cup 2022.
The Netherlands lost to Sri Lanka by 16 runs in today’s first match in the tournament. This advanced Sri Lanka to the super-12 of the ICC Men’s T20 world cup 2022. Sri Lanka is also the first team to be advanced to the super-12 of the tournament.
In this situation, if Namibia would win UAE, both the Netherlands and Namibia would have an equal of 4 points each in the table. And, since Namibia was already above the Netherlands in terms of NRR, its win over UAE would advance them to the super-12. So, a loss of Namibia to UAE was the only way for the Netherlands to enter into the super-12. That is why Cricket Netherlands was looking at the UAE vs Namibia game very closely today in the hope of advancing into the super-12.
In the first match today, between Sri Lanka and the Netherlands; Sri Lanka won the toss and choose to bat first. Sri Lanka made 162/6 batting full 20 overs to set 163 runs target to the Netherlands. But, the Netherlands could not chase the target successfully as they were restricted to 146 runs by Sri Lanka, with the loss of 9 wickets.
And, in the second match today, between UAE and Namibia; UAE won the toss and choose to bat first setting the target of 149 runs to Namibia losing 3 wickets in the inning. Namibia while chasing made 141 runs and lost to UAE by a small margin of 7 runs. Namibia lost 8 wickets in an inning today in the must-win game against UAE.
Sri Lanka is at the top of Group A after all matches of the group. They join Afghanistan, Australia, England and New Zealand in the Super 12 Group 1. While, the Netherlands joins Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and South Africa in the Super 12 Group 2 after ending in the second position in the same group.
