
The 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier is shaping up with several nations securing their spots, and the competition promises to be fierce. The Netherlands, the USA, and Scotland have now officially confirmed their participation, marking significant achievements in their respective regions.
As it stands, eight of the coveted ten spots have been solidified, leaving only two berths open for contention, which will be determined during the Africa Qualifier scheduled for December.
In the Americas region, the USA secured the lone spot with a convincing 30-run victory over Canada at the Woodley Cricket Complex in Los Angeles. Isani Vaghela played a pivotal role, taking an impressive four-wicket haul for a mere 16 runs in her four overs, boasting an economy rate of 4.00.
Vaghela’s exceptional performance throughout the tournament yielded a remarkable tally of 15 wickets. Meanwhile, Disha Dhingra’s stellar performance with the bat, scoring 58 off 50 balls, which included six boundaries, earned her the Player of the Match accolade.
In the Europe region Qualifier, the Netherlands Women demonstrated their supremacy by defeating Italy with ease, securing their spot in the T20 World Cup Global Qualifier with a six-wicket victory in a low-scoring encounter.
On the other hand, Scotland Women left no room for doubt in their dominance, overpowering France by an astonishing margin of 155 runs. Led by Kathryn Bryce, the Scottish team amassed an imposing total of 204 runs in their allotted 20 overs and then went on to restrict France to a mere 49 runs, firmly securing their place in the Global Qualifier.
Scotland topped the table with 10 points, backed by an impressive Net Run Rate (NRR) of 3.777, while the Netherlands secured the second spot with 10 points and an NRR of 2.377. France faced a challenging campaign, losing all six of their matches, while Italy managed to earn four points with two wins.
Additionally, in the East Asia-Pacific Qualifier, Vanuatu made history by claiming the solitary spot. Meanwhile, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, and Thailand secured their tickets to the qualifier with resounding victories in the Asia Qualifier region. The 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier will also feature formidable teams like Ireland and Sri Lanka, promising an exciting and competitive tournament ahead.
