The new women’s FTP features dynamic scheduling of international women’s cricket from 2025 to 2029, a massive shift in competition windows and fixtures. The Women’s Premier League will move from the earlier slot from 2026 onwards to its dedicated January-February place in the new women’s FTP, the Hundred to August, and the Women’s Big Bash League to November. This realignment will shift Cricket Australia’s marquee fixtures to February-March, paving the way for the world’s most lucrative women’s cricket league.
As part of the new women’s FTP, Australia’s last January home series will be the 2024-25 Women’s Ashes, starting on January 12. Post-WPL in 2026, Australia will host India for a full tour of one Test, three ODIs, and three T20Is, marking the beginning of their new home season slot. Zimbabwe features also in the expanded ICC Women’s ODI Championship with 11 teams, part of the new women’s FTP, and is joined in the latter by Bangladesh and Ireland, who were included in the last cycle. Afghanistan is the only Full Member still without a women’s team.
New women’s FTP: Each team to play four home and four away series
This expanded Women’s Championship of the new women’s FTP has each team play four home and four away series in the first three years. Zimbabwe would then host a series against South Africa, West Indies, Ireland, and Sri Lanka while traveling to India, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Now a point of note will be that India and Pakistan shall not play each other on bilaterals.
In preparation for ICC events, the new women’s FTP introduces tri-series fixtures, reportedly driven by member requests. For instance, England would host India and New Zealand to play a tri-series before heading into the 2026 T20 World Cup while Ireland would have Pakistan and West Indies as opponents. Other members include Sri Lanka and West Indies, whose tri-series is scheduled to take place in 2027 and 2028.
This excitement is further added with a T20 Champions Trophy set to debut in 2027 in Sri Lanka as part of the new women’s FTP. It will become part of the strategy from the ICC to hold annual women’s global tournaments, including the Los Angeles Olympics in August 2028 and the T20 World Cup in September 2028.
