The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a new travel policy prior to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be jointly hosted by Pakistan and the UAE. The Indian cricket team, captained by Rohit Sharma, will follow stricter travel guidelines, with families being prohibited from joining players for the duration of the tournament. This policy will make its debut on the tournament beginning on February 15, with India’s first match against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai.
BCCI New Travel Policy for Champions Trophy Highlights
The new travel guidelines for the BCCI now restrict visits by families for tours that run for 45 days and beyond, with no more than two weeks available to spouses and offspring below 18. The ICC Champions Trophy consists of little over three weeks with India’s group-stage games being a highly hyped one with Pakistan on February 23 followed by the third group match versus New Zealand on March 2. Players should pay for everything involved in taking exceptions, though.
A BCCI official corroborated the decision by saying, “No families will be traveling with the team for this tour as it is a short tour. If there are any exceptions, they have to foot full expenses.”
Discipline Measures Following Australia Tour Loss
The policy comes in the wake of India’s 1-3 series loss to Australia. More rules have been added since, including restrictions on players’ personal entourage (managers, agents, and chefs) and compulsory team travel. Players are now required to play domestic cricket whenever schedules allow.
Exceptions for Extended Tours
For the upcoming five-Test series in England in June, July, and August, BCCI has confirmed that families will be allowed to join for a two-week period, with arrangements to be determined later. This longer stay falls under the policy’s family visit criteria.
The new measures reflect the BCCI’s commitment to maintaining team cohesion and discipline as India aims for success in the ICC Champions Trophy and beyond.
