Harry Brook will captain the men’s Hundred team, the Northern Superchargers. He has been named captain for the first time in any high-profile event since leading the national Under-19 team in the 2018 World Cup in New Zealand. He takes over from the team’s previous skipper Wayne Parnell and, in one sense, is already looked upon as a possible future successor to Jos Buttler as the white-ball captain of England.

His appointment was also confirmed by new Northern Superchargers head coach Andrew Flintoff, who has been working with the England white-ball recently. Brook said he was proud to be given the captaincy and excited to do his damn disservice place in the communities he grew up in and Headingley itself.

“It’s an honour to captain Northern Superchargers, and I’m really excited for it,” Brook said. “It’s always special to play at Headingley and to represent the area, and to do that as captain in the Hundred this year will be extra special.”

Sensational last season, Brook ably justified his signature with a brilliant knock of 102* from 42 for Welsh Fire. It held him in good stead in his push to make England’s 50-over World Cup squad, which he unfortunately missed by the mile. Of those in the Superchargers, the attractions at the box office include Ben Stokes, who is conveniently the England Test captain; the West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran; and Adil Rashid and Reece Topley, who were in Brook’s recent World Cup squad. It has also extended the squad by the inclusion of former England opener Jason Roy, who is standing in for Brydon Carse, who got suspended.

Brook said he was looking forward to working under head coach Flintoff and the rest of the team-mates and hoped very much the team would be great, with much to look out for this special year.

Hollie Armitage will lead the Northern Superchargers women again, though, with Dani Hazell back in place as head coach, last year’s finalists having finished as runners-up in 2023.

With such an impressive squad and an experienced captain at the helm, the Northern Superchargers this year are a team to watch out for in the men’s Hundred, with all eyes on the emerging superstar Harry Brook.
