'Not Me Deciding' - MS Dhoni Unveils Who Will Decide His IPL Future

Mahindra Singh Dhoni isn’t finished yet — but he’s not making any guarantees either. While retirement gossip surrounds the great Chennai Super Kings legend, MS Dhoni has finally spoken about his IPL future. In a recent podcast interview with Raj Shamani, Dhoni explained that no decision has been taken regarding his IPL future. Rather, he’s letting his body do the talking.

“I do things year by year,” Dhoni replied with his trademark calm. “By July I’ll be 44. That gives me 10 months to think, reflect, and listen to my body. It’s not what I want — the body will decide if I keep going or not.

While fans and pundits alike speculated that the 2025 IPL might be his final dance, especially after family members were spotted at the Chepauk during CSK’s recent match, Dhoni’s measured response has put those rumours on ice — for now.

His last outing against Delhi Capitals, in which he remained not out on 30 off 26 deliveries, was a reminder that the man has some gas left in the tank. It was his highest score so far this season and added yet another feather to his cap as he became CSK’s highest run-scorer, beating franchise legend Suresh Raina.

MS Dhoni and his IPL future: Hayden says ‘it’s over’!

Still, not all feedback has been glowing. Critics, including former CSK teammate Matthew Hayden, have voiced concerns over Dhoni’s current batting tempo. Some feel the veteran has looked a bit too reserved at the crease this season. Hayden, never one to mince words, quipped Dhoni should “join the commentary team” — a suggestion that might sting but underscores the growing debate around his role.

Regardless of opinions, Dhoni’s legacy is untouched. Five IPL titles, countless match-winning moments, and an unmatched aura make him one of the game’s most respected figures. Whether 2025 is the end or just another chapter depends on how the next 10 months unfold.

For now, Dhoni is locked in, focused on the present. “Let’s finish this season. Then we’ll see,” he said — a vintage Dhoni sign-off if there ever was one.
