New Zealand and South Africa cricket teams are all set to visit Pakistan for an ODI tri-nation series in February 2024.

The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mr Mohsin Naqvi met the Chairman of Cricket South Africa (CSA), Mr Lawson Naidoo and the Chairman of New Zealand Cricket (NZC), Mr Roger Twose, who welcomed the idea ahead of the all-important ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.

Mohsin also extended an invitation to both chairmen to visit Pakistan. In the meeting, it was decided to play an ODI tri-nation series to prepare for the Champions Trophy 2025, slated to begin in March. Notably, Pakistan are designated host of the 50-over all-important extravaganza.

After the idea of ODI tri-nation series was accepted by NZC and CSA, Mohsin stated,

“The Tri-series between Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand will be an exciting event and it is after a long time that Pakistan will host such a tournament. I would like to thank the heads of NZC and CSA for agreeing to participate in the Tri-series. The PCB is also looking forward to hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 which will be a great pleasure for Pakistan to host the top eight ODI teams on its soil.”

Pakistan last hosted a tri-series back in October 2004 which included Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka as the other two teams.

It is yet to see if the boards will send their second-string teams or full-strength squads to Pakistan as during February, a couple of T20 leagues across the globe will be under action. South Africa’s SA20 will be one of them.
