According to insider information, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reached an agreement to participate in a white-ball series against New Zealand next year (PAK vs NZ). The series is expected to take place in New Zealand and may consist of either five T20Is or three ODIs.
New Zealand has extended the offer to host the series following the conclusion of Pakistan’s tour of Australia in January 2024. The ongoing three-match Test series in Australia will conclude on January 7th, creating a suitable window for the Pakistan-New Zealand series to commence in the second week of January. New Zealand has a free period before their home series against South Africa in February, allowing for the scheduling flexibility.
Notably, New Zealand recently visited Pakistan in April-May for a five-match ODI series and an equal number of T20Is. Pakistan dominated the ODI series, securing a convincing 4-1 victory. However, the Black Caps managed to stun the hosts by drawing the preceding T20 series 2-2, despite missing eight key players, including captain Kane Williamson, who were either participating in the Indian Premier League or dealing with injuries.
Under the leadership of stand-in captain Tom Latham, New Zealand demonstrated their adaptability and skill in navigating the challenging conditions. They made a remarkable comeback after being 2-0 down, ultimately winning the third and fifth T20 matches, while the fourth match was abandoned due to rain.
This tour served as a form of compensation for New Zealand, as they had withdrawn from their scheduled visit to Pakistan in September 2021 due to security concerns. However, they did play two Tests and three ODIs in Pakistan in December-January as a replacement.
Cricket enthusiasts can eagerly anticipate another thrilling contest between Pakistan and New Zealand, as they prepare to clash once again in the white-ball format next year. The exact details and fixtures of the upcoming series will be announced in due course.
