The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a strong 18-man squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand, starting April 18th. This series serves as crucial preparation for the T20 World Cup in June.

The headline news is the return of experienced pacer Mohammad Amir and all-rounder Imad Wasim, who recently withdrew their retirements from international cricket. This decision fills the void left by injured bowler Haris Rauf and out-of-form player Mohammad Nawaz.

“Their return was a straightforward decision,” said PCB selection committee member Wahab Riaz. “Both Amir and Imad possess undeniable match-winning capabilities, and we trust they will consistently deliver to bolster the team’s objectives.”

Another notable inclusion is Usman Khan, who recently requested a release from the Emirates Cricket Board to play for Pakistan. This move strengthens the batting lineup.

The squad, led by captain Babar Azam, boasts a blend of experience and youth, with veterans like Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan providing stability alongside exciting prospects like Saim Ayub and Abrar Ahmed.

The first three matches will be played in Rawalpindi (April 18th, 20th, and 21st), followed by the final two encounters in Lahore (April 25th and 27th).

With a strong squad and home advantage, Pakistan will be looking to dominate the series and gain valuable momentum before the T20 World Cup. Non-travelling reserves have also been named, providing additional depth to the squad should injuries occur.
