Grant Bradburn, the head coach of the Pakistan cricket team, has emphasized the need for the team to develop into a cohesive and formidable unit in order to achieve success at the upcoming World Cup and Asia Cup. Despite having a group of talented individual players, the team has yet to reach the level they aspire to be at.
In an interview with a local TV channel after Pakistan’s loss in the fifth T20I match against New Zealand, Bradburn acknowledged that they currently have “a team of champions, [but] we don’t have a champion team as of yet.” He stressed the importance of building a cohesive team that can compete at the highest level and win major tournaments.
To achieve this, Bradburn explained that the players need to come to terms with the reality that they have not yet reached their desired level. “We’ve allowed the realization or the acceptance from our boys, that we’re not the team where they want to be as yet,” he said. “If we want to contest and win the World Cup, we want to go to number one, every format of the game, our game is going to have to lift, our players are going to have to lift [themselves].”
Bradburn also emphasized the need for Pakistan to alter their style of cricket in order to excel in the upcoming tournaments. While their current style has led them to third place in the T20I rankings and two finals, it will not be enough to achieve their ultimate goals. “If we bring the game that has been successful for us over the last two or three years, we will come second and we will go backwards,” he said. “We have to understand what brand of the game we need to play in Asia Cup and World Cup. And we need to adapt to that very quickly.”
Bradburn’s comments highlight the importance of team cohesion and adaptability for success in international cricket. While individual talent is important, it is the ability to work together as a team and adjust to different situations that ultimately leads to victory. The Pakistan cricket team will need to focus on developing these qualities in order to achieve their goals in the upcoming tournaments.
