Pakistan not in position to boycott Asia Cup, says BCCI

The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a silly dig at Pakistan, commenting that the cricket-loving nation is not in a position to boycott Asia Cup 2023. The statement came after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) threatened to boycott the Asian event after BCCI denied visiting Pakistan to play it.

The BCCI has demanded a neutral venue for Asia Cup despite the fact that Pakistan owns the hosting right as confirmed by ACC including India’s Jay Shah. While Asia Cup is all set to kick off in September this year, the venue fuss is still not solved, with no final decision taken by the council.

The PCB has also proposed a hybrid model but BCCI does not stand firm on that either. The only option left for Pakistan to retain the hosting rights is to threaten to boycott, however, cruel Indian officials have lashed at the board questioning board’s capability to do so.

According to reported comments by a BCCI official,

“Those are just immediate reactions. PCB very well knows what position they are in and any money that comes through is important for them. I don’t think Pakistan can boycott. They will play in Asia Cup and World Cup. For the moment, they are trying whatever they can to keep it but it’s not going to happen,” the official said.

“We will know next week as there will be an ACC meeting in Dubai after WTC. There are some concerns that need addressing and after that we will have the schedule for Asia Cup,” the official added.
