Aliya Riaz and Fatima Sana hold their nerves to win it for Pakistan in Karachi against South Africa women in the first T20 Internationals.
Pakistan won the toss and decided to field first, South Africa scored 48-0 after the first six overs. However, Pakistan’s left-arm-spin duo of Nashra Sundhu and Sadia Iqbal then took control, and they dismissed Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp cheaply.
Tazmin Brits top-scored for South Africa with 78.
Pakistan’s openers Shawaal Zulfiqar and Sidra Amin got them off to a good start in the chase, but they both fell cheaply. Bismah Maroof’s 37 helped provide stability and momentum to the chase, and she was well supported by Aliya Riaz and Muneeba Ali.
The game turned into a thriller in the final over, with Pakistan needing eight runs to win. Aliya Riaz and Fatima Sana rotated the strike effectively, and they brought the required run down to just one on the last ball. Aliya then hit the winning runs to give Pakistan a memorable victory.
