The Perth Scorchers have boosted their spin-bowling attack by signing talented local Hamish McKenzie for the upcoming KFC BBL|13 season.

McKenzie is a left-arm wrist-spinner who has been among the more prolific wicket-takers in WA Premier Cricket in recent seasons. He won the 2021-22 Olly Cooley Medal as WA Premier Cricket’s best and fairest player, and earned his first WA contract ahead of the 2022-23 domestic season.

McKenzie has modeled elements of his game on Scorchers great Brad Hogg, and started the 2022-23 summer by removing superstars Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik during a practice match between WA and India.

The 24-year-old was called up by the Scorchers as an injury replacement player in BBL|12, but injuries halted his MBBL and domestic campaigns.

McKenzie is excited to be joining the Scorchers on a full-time basis for BBL|13.

“I’m pretty pumped. It’s been a bit of a journey to get here and I can’t wait to get started.”

Scorchers General Manager – High Performance Cricket & Elite Teams Kade Harvey said that McKenzie is an exciting prospect for the club and adds something completely different to their attack.

“Hamish is an exciting prospect for us and adds something completely different to our attack.

“His skills with the ball, in terms of variety and control, are strong, and he’s shown over many years playing Premier Cricket that he’s the ultimate competitor.

“He got a taste of the Big Bash last year as an injury replacement player, so we’re keen to see what he can do throughout the course of a full MBBL season.”

The Scorchers have one local list spot and one international list spot to fill, following McKenzie’s recruitment.
