Peshawar Zalmi, the victorious franchise of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017, has launched a talent hunt program at Hayatabad Cricket Stadium, igniting excitement among young cricketers. Led by their director of cricket, Mohammad Akram, the two-day trials witnessed an impressive turnout of around 1000 aspiring players. To further showcase their skills, the selected participants will form four teams—Babar Azam XI, Darren Sammy XI, Inzamamul Haque XI, and Kamran Akmal XI—for an upcoming four-team tournament.
Following the tournament, the top 20 promising cricketers will be chosen to undergo specialized training at the prestigious National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore. This initiative by Peshawar Zalmi is viewed as a significant step in providing valuable opportunities to the talented youngsters who represent the future of Pakistan cricket.
Expressing his surprise at the overwhelming response, Mohammad Akram, the director of cricket for Zalmi, expressed his admiration for the remarkable talent displayed during the trials. He emphasized that these aspiring cricketers hold immense potential and acknowledged the vital role they play in shaping the nation’s cricketing future. The talent hunt program initiated by Peshawar Zalmi aims to nurture and develop these young players, paving their way to success.
Peshawar Zalmi secured their sole PSL title in a historic final held in Lahore in 2017, under the leadership of former West Indian captain Darren Sammy. This year, the team was led by the talented Babar Azam, marking his debut as captain. Although their PSL 8 journey concluded after a defeat against Lahore Qalandars in the Eliminator 2, Peshawar Zalmi remains committed to discovering and honing young talent that will contribute to the future success of the franchise and Pakistan cricket as a whole.
