The Royals won the toss and chose to field first. The Knight Riders got off to a slow start, losing Mark Deyal early in the innings. However, Nicholas Pooran and Martin Guptill put on a partnership of 56 runs before Guptill was dismissed. Pooran and Andre Russell then came together and put on an explosive partnership of 82 runs off just 36 balls. Pooran scored a brilliant century, his second at the CPL, as the Knight Riders ended on 208/6 after 20 overs.

The Royals struggled in their chase, losing wickets at regular intervals. Akeal Hosein and Waqar Salamkheil were the pick of the bowlers for the Knight Riders, taking two wickets each. Kyle Mayers top-scored for the Royals with 70 runs, but it was not enough to prevent their defeat.

The win means the Knight Riders now have 9 points and are in a good position to qualify for the playoffs. The Royals, on the other hand, are in a bit of trouble, having won just three of their eight matches so far.
